Today will be full of tasks. Full of deadlines. Full of pressure to get the job done. But God has given us a task of far greater significance to perform. He has given us the ministry of encouragement.
We live in a world of discouragement. Most of the people you will come into contact with today are experiencing some form of discouragement in their lives. Perhaps they recently lost a job. Or maybe they are having marital problems or experiencing difficulty with the kids. It could be they are dealing with a health issue or are concerned for a loved one who is sick. Maybe, the Yankees lost last night (sorry I could not help myself!). But one thing is guaranteed, you will encounter a lot of discouraged people today.
Sadly, most of us, myself included, will be too preoccupied with our own agendas to see the hurt that others are experiencing. We will not take the time to talk to them and try to encourage them because we got stuff to do. We will fail to see that God wants to use us to reveal Himself to that person. To show them that He loves them. That He uniquely created them and has a wonderful plan for their lives. To give them hope so they can transcend whatever challenges they are facing.
The question is, will we allow God to use us today? Will we be present in every moment? Every situation? Every conversation? Or will we be more concerned about moving on to the next thing on our to do list so we can feel we accomplished something today? But one thing is for sure, you will have to make this decision at some point today.
So I ask you a very important question that will have eternal significance. Who will you encourage today?
